The theme of the Afrika Liberation Day event organised by the Pan-African Congress Movement (PACM) on May 29th-30th this year is Africa In The World Today (http://aggaroo.com/whats-on/africa-liberation-day-2016/2016-05-29/). There are certainly many ways to discern the subject. One might be look at available statistics. For example, the World Bank Group’s World Development Indicators 2015 indicate that Afrika has:
· the highest extreme poverty and hunger
· the lowest rates of universal primary education
· made least progress promoting gender equality and empower women
· the highest child mortality (1)
Not surprisingly, terms like ‘slavery’, ‘colonialism’ and even ‘globalization’ do not appear anywhere.
These types of outcomes find themselves replicated throughout the Afrikan diaspora. The main difference being that Afrikans here do not largely (lamentably) deliver primary education. In terms, economic activity, health and gender issues Afrikans tend to languish at the bottom of the table. For example, although Afrikan women in the USA are most likely to likely to be in the labour force (71% compared to 69% for “all women) they are more likely to be unemployed (10% to 8%) and far more likely to be below the poverty level (29% to 17%) (2).
So the picture both “at home and abroad” is of global oppression. Legions of prophets and messengers from Marcus Mosiah Garvey to Omowale Malcolm X, Osgagyefo Kwame Nkrumah to Queen Mama Frances Cress Welsing and beyond have proscribed diagnoses and Blackprints for Afrikans to repel the yoke of oppression yet it is still to be achieved.
Some commentators like USA based ZaZa Ali, who will be one of the contributors to the PACM ALD event encourages Afrikans to address some of the internal factors. She asserts that challenging the pernicious forms of white supremacy cannot succeed while there is “a war on Black women” (that on different levels both Afrikan men and women participate in) and while our very consciousness gets “commercialized.” Sis. ZaZa advocates the “science of self” as a starting point to taking control of our being as a foundation to re-establishing the necessary institutions necessary to render us a free and self-determining people.

So we ask the question:
What do Afrikans need to do to liberate ourselves??
1. Does the current state of Afrikans globally render liberation unthinkable?
2. Why have we failed to apply the programmes previous prophets and messengers?
3. Is there really a “war on black women”?
4. How is our consciousness being “commercialized”?
5. What is the “Science of Self”?
