In what is being referred to as a fail of epic proportions, the general election has now has Prime Minister Theresa May, in spite of winning (albeit not without the loss of her parliamentary majority) cast as a “dead woman walking,” according to former Chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne. (1) Meanwhile the results demonstrated that the death of the Labour was greatly exaggerated. Indeed, in addition to being credited with running the superior campaign, Jeremy Corbyn was also reportedly a mere 2,227 votes away from being Prime Minister. (2)
The “youth vote” has been frequently cited as a key factor in transforming Labour’s election fortunes. (3) Not Surprisingly, some of the Afrkan community was also in celebratory mood with Africans for JC Values holding a AFJCV GE2017 Celebration on June 11th.
Anecdotally, some in the Afrikan community seemed quite aggrieved that there wasn’t even greater support openly demonstrated for Corbyn such as was advocated by several grime MCs and personalities like Akala and Toyin Agbetu.
The irony is that many in the Afrikan community rail against what they see as “personality cults”(or even “egoism”) as being the bane of our development, yet it is these attributes that we were urged throw our weight behind in the Labour leader.
With Labour not winning the dilemma is whether Afrikan activists now cleave to the party for the next five year of focuses on developing its own agency, given that the Labour manifesto gave scant regard for the specific interests of Afrikan people.
At a time so pregnant with hope, some lamented the visible presence of an iNAPP to galvanise around a practical nation building agenda that could put competing parties to the test.

So we ask the question:
Where does the General Election result leave us?
1. What role did the “Black Vote”/”Black support” have in Labour’s performance?
2. Should the Afrikan community now throw out weight behind Corbyn to fulfil his vision?
3. Or is it time to build our own agency and put both Labour and a weakened Conservative Party to the test?
4. Does the Corbyn factor spell the end of the nation building agenda?
