Afrika Speaks with Alkebu-Lan on Galaxy Radio 19/09/22 – Osagyefo@113: How do we transform Afrika?

September 19, 2022 Alkebu-Lan

As we contemplate the 113th anniversary of the birth of Afrika’s “Man of the Millennium”, the Osagyefo (“the redeemer”) Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, it is in acknowledgement that, in spite of the momentous strides made in the service of Afrika, his is still a legacy unfulfilled following the CIA backed coup that ousted him in 1966. (1)

As much as forty years after the coup the late, great Pan-Afrikainst organiser Dr Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem, before his untimely death asserted:

“It is clear to everybody today that Pan-Africanism is not a dream anymore but a precondition for the survival of Africa and Africans in the face of new rampaging and rapacious exploitation, packaged as globalisation. Those who had accused Nkrumah of being too impatient had the honesty to admit in public that they were wrong and regretted that they were not as radical as Nkrumah had been. Africa could have been saved the wasted decades.” (2)

A decade and a half on that, the urgency has in no way diminished.  Bro. Kwame Gonza of the Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute unequivocally asserts:

“Pan Africanists ought to urgently mobilise each other… to immediately create a council of the wise / or steering committee to establish an official line and strategic partnerships with friendly nations of the world, insist on an African plan, a Rapid Africa Transformational project put together for the continent, rapid enough for it to deliver results within 5 to 10 years… Africa Must move rapidly in the direction of rapid transformation, insistence should be made that Europe should withdraw its troops from Africa and Africans should protect their own continent, PanAfricanist revolutionaries should not underestimate the responsibility on their shoulders above all their capabilities which they seem to be doing for now, there is need for absolute urgency in attending to Africa’s security and development needs. Nothing should be left to chance, let there be Confidence.” (3)

Thus, the propagation of a Pan-Afrikan methodology is a priority.  With Kwame Nkrumah as an exemplar one approach could to institutionalise the annual observance of the ninth month as Kwame Nkrumah month, e.g called OSAGYEFO among the global Pan-Afrikan family as a means to codify his life and legacy, similar what Mosiah has done for Marcus Garvey.  (4)

So we ask the question:

Osagyefo@113: How do we transform Afrika?

1) In what way was Kwame Nkrumah a redeemer?

2) Are today’s Pan-Afrikanists ready for the challenge for transforming Afrika?

3) How would Afrika’s relationship to Europe/the world need to change for transformation to take place?

4) Would an annual ‘Osagyefo Month’ help propagate the legacy of Kwame Nkrumah?
