In our previous discussion on this issue, Bro. Ldr. Mbandaka acknowledged the growth, from suspicion and detraction around four decades ago, of Afrikan Spirituality to a space where it is more widely accepted today. But he also indicated that there much more to do if, as he argues, it is to be the foundation of our nation building efforts.
Historically Afrikan Spirituality has galvanised our people and was the impetus for numerous rebellions, which is exactly why that selfless, communal, self-determining aspect was demonised because it what defined us the most.
However, Bro. ShakaRa on the same show suggested that one of the greatest challenges currently facing Afrikan Spirituality its “capitalisation” an inversion of its true principles, divorced from a political and economic consciousness, becoming a means for meeting individual ends – i.e. materialism, or what Bro. Ldr. termed “spiritism.”
Thus, Bro. Ldr asserts that there is a need to “revitalise and reinvigorate our Afrikan spiritual cultural systems” to bring its true status where it is:
“The centre and foundation of Afrikan culture, the core of Afrikan consciousness and the essence of the Afrikan personality.”
