The transition from the old year into the new has confirmed one thing, white nationalism is back with avengeance. In reality it never went away but in the age of Trump the conceits of diplomacy, international law and democracy have been swept away in an orgy of militarised violence that has assaulted Somalia, Iran, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Nigeria and now Venezuela as well as scores of small boats in the Caribbean sea – the evidentiary basis presented was simply ‘(white) might is right.’ (1)
While world leaders and global institutions mouth inanities in their finely tuned political double speak, while the mainstream media act as stenographrers, the pressing query now is who next will incur USA’s baseless wrath? (2) With perhaps the notable exception of the AES, we can assume the inclination of the neo-colonial regimes of Afrika and the Caribbean would be to obey in advance, as Nigeria recently exemplified. (3)
To be sure, the shenanigans directed from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue are the tip of the ideological spear of a global white nationalist movement (euphemistically called ”far-right”) being mainstreamed, dominating online spaces and being laundered by a compliant media. (4)
The Afrikan community doesn’t have billionaire funding to transform benighted louts into media icons as the white nationalists do, so our building will need to be from the ground up.(5)
At Shumira on January 4th Bro. Ldr. Mbandaka declared that the new year should bring “a renewed vision for total Afrikan Liberation” that he articulated as proactive, committed support for community institutions as a basis for our organising such as Galaxy Radio (media), Alkebu-lan Shumira (spiritual cultural) and the the Pan-Afrikan People’s Parliament (political).
As we come out of the Kwanzaa season we can affirm that we have a ready made value system called the Nguzo Saba that can be used as a framework to organise around, if we so choose. There are alternatives, but we must choose. The stakes only seem to be getting higher so arguably the “renewed vision” is almost already past due.
