TENDAI MWARI (Be thankful unto the Creator)

Freedom begins with the freeing of the mind & soul…

Theme this month: Afrika Liberation Day Special

THROW AWAY THE IMAGE OF THE WHITE MAN’S GOD: Haiti & The Vision of Afrikan Liberation

Ayiti’s (Haiti) current designation by European media as “failed state” betrays the 220 year onslaught arrayed against it since independence in 1804. Yet the war waged by its inhabitants from 1791 to 1803 provides a revolutionary example for the Afrikan world – spiritually, politically and economically, that we can drawn upon in the present.

As we approach Afrika Liberation Day (May 25th), as designated by the Organisation of Afrikan Unity in 1963, this timely message merges the lessons of “race vindication” and sovereignty from Ayiti’s Freedom Fighters with the current fight for Afrikan Liberation. As Vodun Priest Bookman Dutty declared on the eve of the revolution in Bwa Kayiman in 1791:

“Good God who created the Sun which shines on us from above, who rouses the sea and makes the thunder rumble; Listen! God though hidden in a cloud watches over us. The god of the white man calls forth crime but our God wills good works. Our God who is so good commands us to vengeance.

He will direct our arms and help us. Throw away the likeness of the white man’s god who has so often brought us to tears and listen to liberty which speaks in our hearts.”

SHUMIRA is a word from the Shona Language (mainly spoken in Zimbabwe) meaning “Worship”. Shumira is the process through which we ritualise our harmony with MWARI Nyakusika (The Creator, Universal Life Force, All in All), Mudzimu Mukuru (Our Great Ancestors), and ZWIBATO (The Elements), the forces of Mother Nature.
