Sun 25th Feb 2024 • 1pm-6pm • @Chestnuts Community Centre N15 5BN

21st February marks the anniversary of the assassination of Omowale Malcolm X. He was on the verge of presenting the programme of his Organisation of Afro-American Unity (OAAU) to the world and launching a revolutionary programme for Afrikan Liberation.

Key to this programme was the issue of identity as the foundational basis for Grassroots Organising & Political/Economic development.

Our theme this year focuses on the Philosophy of Black Nationalism as expressed by the OAAU & the essential function of Afrikan Identity in solving the Politico-Economic problems facing Afrikan people in today's world.

THE DAY

The OMOWALE MALCOLM X Observance is NOT a meeting or a conference. It is designed to create a SANKOFA (Look back to go forward) environment in which we can celebrate, connect with & learn from the life & legacy of Omowale Malcolm X, so that we may practically build upon it. The programme is therefore designed to tune into both the most spiritual and the most practical – REAL aspects of the legacy, giving due honour to one who lived his life and gave his life so that we could have a better life.

The day will commence as follows….

FILM:The proceedings begin with live footage, speeches, interviews and documentaries of Omowale Malcolm X – Hearing from the Prophet in his own words. This enables us to collectively connect directly with the Man, his life, his mission and his spirit.

DRUM CALL: – Approaching the hour of 3pm, The Alkebu-Lan Revivalist Movement Youth (A.R.M.Y.) will announce the beginning of formalities with a Drum Call.

LIBATION:In keeping with Afrikan tradition, will lead in to a special Libation, detailing the narrative of the life of Omowale Malcolm X as well as paying homage to his family and his ancestors. The Libation will commence around 3pm, coinciding with the approximate time of the martyrdom of OMX.
