Afrika Speaks with Alkebu-Lan on Galaxy Radio – 08/04/24: Can our young people be the vanguard of the spirituo-cultural revolution?

April 8, 2024 Alkebu-Lan

The message Heru Rising – Afrikan Youth In The Vanguard Of The Spirituo-Cultural Revolution was delivered at Alkebu-Lan Shumira on April 7 by Bro. Chukwueneka Quamina.

As the title suggests Bro. Eneka framed the message around the Ausar-Ausetien Drama (also known as the Osirian Drama) where Heru avenged the death of his father Ausar at the hands of his uncle Set. However, despite being younger and stronger, it was ultimately the wise counsel of Djehuti that saw him prevail by compeling him to be his true self. The components of which were already in him but the counsel brought them out, made them manifest.

Similarly, Bro. Eneka emphasised the importance of acknowledging the work of antecedents (even in the face of “disdain” from sections of the wider community), without which we would be even further behind that some feel we are now. (1)

Relating this to his own experience of being initiated into Afrikan spiritual culture like being given given an Afrikan name and engaging in different types of cultural, educational and creative programmes and activities. While stressing that these factors remain important he added that it is also necessary to build on previous work: “it is imperative to link our spirituo-cultural agenda with our political and economic agenda, has the UNIA-ACL, Rastafari, etc, have done in the past.”

Thus a key question in attracting young people is what can they get from this that they can’t get anywhere else, including religions and other activities. He referenced Fanon’s liberation maxim as an imperative to this generation:

“Each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfill it, or betray it.” (2)

we ask the question

Can our young people be the vanguard of the spirituo-cultural revolution?

1) How do we assess the current state of the Pan-Afrikan community?

2) Have previous generations left sufficient resources for our young people?

3) How can we ensure that young people fulfil their mission?
