The Mosiah season 6265 (2025) was launched at the Mosiah Opening Ceremony at Alkebu-Lan’s Shumira on Mosiah (Aug) 3rd. The observance which is a thirty-one day celebration honouring the life and legacy of the Most Eminent Prophet and King, His Excellency Marcus Mosiah Garvey has achieved widespread acceptance since it was first touted thirty-eight years ago.
In a 1997 message at the Alkebu-Lan Revivalist Movement’s Family Forum entitled How Long Shall They Kill Our Prophets… Then Apologise? Reparations Now! Bro. Ldr. Mbandaka outlined the rationale behind it:
“As our Ancestors teach us, there is power in the word. And as we speak, we are using an alien language. We must know that we have to correct that as a vital pre-requisite for our liberation. So when we say ‘August,’ we better know that we’re calling upon a European… so this month that we call ‘August,’ we may have to change that month to Mosiah – we have to do that, we have to redefine reality. Anybody have a problem with that?…”
It was the following year (1998) the full Mosiah season was launched in the community and the rest, as they say is history.
The keynote address at the Opening Ceremony was delivered by Bro. Ldr. Mbandaka on the theme The Imperative of Nationhood. He quoted the Prophet saying:
“If the enemy could only know that Marcus Garvey is but a John the Baptist in the wilderness, that a greater and more dangerous Marcus Garvey is yet to appear, the Garvey with whom you will have to reckon for the injustice of the present generation.”
Bro. Ldr. asserted that this “greater and more dangerous Marcus Garvey” is actually the masses of the people when we enact the “fulfillment and personification” of Marcus Mosiah Garvey under the principles of Afrikan Fundamentalism, namely: Race First, Self Reliance, Nationhood and Afrikan Spiritual Orthodoxy. These, he continued are imperative in the current times.
Bro. Ldr pointed to the Pan-Afrikan People’s Parliament as well as Shumira initiatives to galvanise around especially in a period of a resurgent global affirmation of Pan-Afrikanism, inspired by movements being made in the Ouagadogou (Sahel) region.
He urged that we need to stop “marking time” and follow the BLACKPRINT with the urgency that our condition requires.

1) Why is the Mosiah Season necessary?
2) Can we collectively be a “greater and more dangerous Marcus Garvey”?
3) Is global Pan-Afrikanism currently on an upward trajectory?
4) How can initiatives like Shumira and PAPP help us realize the vision of nationhood?
